I’m looking for any advice that could help me out. I owe medical bills for a surgery I had last year in Minnesota. My insurance covered part of it, but there’s still a huge amount left that I’m responsible for. The clinic says it was an emergency, but my insurance claims it falls under an exclusion that isn’t covered by their policy. The clinic also won’t accept the insurance adjustment, even though my insurance insists they’re contracted with them. It’s a lot of back and forth with too many exclusions being thrown around.
I’ve tried multiple times to apply for financial assistance, but I’m hitting more exclusions because I’m a non-citizen, even though I’m a legal immigrant. I really can’t afford to pay the $37,000 bill. I’ve asked for discounts or any kind of assistance, but they keep denying me due to my non-citizen status. It feels like they could help but are pushing me to pay the full amount. I’m worried it’s going to be sent to debt collectors soon, and I still can’t pay. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? Anything that might help?
Pay nothing for it. In three years, my wife has undergone four back surgery. I have a huge balance, so I pay the hospital $100 every month. They just don’t be paid for whatever they won’t include in the payment schedule. Although she dislikes the calls from collections, her credit is unaffected. Still 750 on the scorecard.
What is the smallest monthly payment amount that you are able to make? Inform them you may pay $50 a month if they refuse to tell you. That’s what I have to pay for an emergency appendectomy I had while out of state and without insurance. Additionally, the hospital connected me with a foundation that paid for a portion of the expenses. They said that the charity was only open to locals, but I suppose they felt sorry for me. Wishing you luck!
I give these places a call and tell them I will be sending them $20 a month. whether they object, I question whether they want to avoid being compensated or whether they reject it. has previously dealt with all of my large invoices.
Actually, I offered to pay them as much as I could afford each month—250 dollars—but they rejected me, stating that my only choice was to pay the entire money back over the course of 12 months. They’re insane.
They attempted that on me as well, and I offered to pay $20. I told them and just did that without asking. The problem is that by giving them a modest amount each month, you demonstrate your intention to pay, and as a result, collections cannot take legal action or take other appropriate action. I had one sent to collections, but since I continued to pay the original location, collections was unable to take any action. By making certain payments, you demonstrate your “intent to pay,” which severely limits their possibilities.
