I’ve been doing paid focus groups for around 2 years now. I usually qualify for one or two a month, depending on how many surveys I fill out.
The pay varies a lot – I’ve made between $75 and $600 per group. Some gigs target specific groups like doctors, nurses, caregivers, or parents of newborns.
Most of the time, they don’t take long either. I’ve done a few that were just a quick hour-long Zoom call and paid $150 for my opinions. Another was a 30-minute session for $75.
One time, I did a group for a big fast food chain – they paid for my meal and wanted feedback on the new menu. I got $275 just for sharing my thoughts.
Some are pretty cool too! I did one at an aquarium, got a full tour, and then gave my thoughts on their marketing. They paid $375 for that session!
If I make over $600 in a year, I get a W9 for taxes, if anyone’s curious.
Payments usually come via prepaid digital cards, which helps me cover my internet, gas, groceries, and electric bills. And no, this isn’t a sponsored post! Just sharing for anyone else who might need some extra income to help with bills.
Be careful with Schlesinger. I was counting on a session payment last week, but had trouble finding parking and was 3 minutes late. They didn’t let me in and were rude about it.
I like focus groups, but I wouldn’t rely on them as my main income.
@Beck
Good to know! I mostly use focus groups to supplement my income, not as my main job. I work full-time, so it’s more of a side thing. I haven’t tried Schlesinger, though.
