16k for a car loan… what now?

Not a lawyer, but I think some states let you file after 30 days. It won’t stop the garnishment until reviewed, but it’s something.

Avoid buying from dealers. Wage garnishments don’t just go away. I lived off the McDonald’s dollar menu for years because of one. Maybe she should consider bankruptcy if she has no assets.

What assumptions? She lost a case, didn’t pay, and now she’s garnished. This has gone too far for negotiations.

She could try finding work that pays in cash or equivalents. A lot of people in the US survive on $1k a month that way.

She’s just starting over after losing everything because of her ex. I cover most expenses, and she helps with gaps. I’ve considered that option too.

I had my license suspended once for not showing up in court, even though I was there. They had too many people and sent half of us home with new dates. Things like this happen.

If you’re just here to criticize, don’t bother commenting. I’m just trying to help her rebuild.

The only help now is paying it off.

I’m asking how to ease the garnishment or if anyone has been through this and has tips. Everyone just seems to assume we’re clueless.

Then talk to a lawyer. Looks like a dead end.

They’ll take it out of her paycheck every payday until the debt is gone. Employers have no choice. No other way around it now.

Thanks for the clear answer.

I was hoping for helpful advice, not self-righteousness.
