Credit card numbers aren’t totally random. There’s a formula to them. I don’t know how to do it, but people definitely have figured it out.

It’s actually optional to decline based on CVV mismatch. Some acquirers advise merchants to ignore it if they’re not concerned about fraud.

Just a heads-up: locking your cards isn’t enough. You need to have your bank issue new card numbers. Once your info is out there, people will keep trying it.
